about: Duane Loose
Duane is an industry veteran Production Designer, Art Director, Industrial Designer and Digital Artist. As a graduate of BYU’s Industrial Design program (BFA-ID 1979) he designed products for major corporations such as General Motors, DEC, Data General, Xerox, Fisher Price, CIBA Corning Diagnostics, Plantronics and Stanley Tools. Before changing careers to entertainment, Duane was one of the founding principals of Altitude – http://www.altitudeinc.com/ – a full service Industrial Design consultancy in the Boston area.
In 1994 he moved to California to teach industrial design at Cal State Long Beach and work for Creative Capers Entertainment, Inc. as their Supervising Art Director for CGI and Development. During his tenure at Capers, Duane co-developed their original IP: Houdini, Adam Blaster, Titanisphere and the Studman Brothers, worked on two feature films, multiple TV pilots and over 45 video games for Disney Interactive. http://www.creativecapers.com/
In 2002 he moved to discreet, a division of Autodesk Inc. as the Animation and Visual Effects Products Specialist for the Southwest US region teaching professional artists about the Autodesk toolset.
In 2003 Creative Capers asked Duane to return to art direct and supervise the visual effects for the second Bionicle film: “The Legends of Metru Nui”. His work on that film and its prequel, “The Mask of Light”, were honored with awards for Best Visual Effects from the DVD Academy.
In 2004 Duane joined Electronic Arts to art direct “Medal of Honor: European Assault”. Duane worked as the pre-production art director for Command and Conquer 3. His last project for EALA was art direction for the late great unpublished FPS game: “TIBERIUM” – built using Unreal and set in the Command and Conquer Universe.
In 2007 he lost his mind and opened a studio, alphaZED studios, inc. (aZs). Duane’s first gig under the aZs banner was art director, production designer and VFX supervisor for two successful web series: afterworld and Gemini Division for SONY and NBC. aZs creates stylized cg and precision digital visual effects and animation for entertainment, games, web, aerospace and design visualization industries.
In 2008 Duane earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Computer Animation from AI/Miami International University.
In 2009 - Well, let’s just say Duane was glad to see 2009 in his rear-view mirror.
In 2010 Duane started teaching at Ai/San Diego and joined GameCloud Studios as Senior Art Director.
Duane taught industrial design at Mass Art, M.I.T, Rhode Island School of Design and California State University at Long Beach. He is a former member of the faculty advisory committees for the Industrial Design and Animation Departments at Brigham Young University. Duane currently serves on the advisory committees for Ai/Pittsburgh, Ai/San Diego, and Ferris State University.
